Great Sales Reps Make the Difference
Not just anyone is cut out to be an effective sales representative. The sales role requires a special set of skills, knowledge, and especially a positive can-do attitude.
Shouldice Designer Stone sales representatives are exceptionally good at what they do. We thought it would be of interest to share a little personal, behind the scenes, information about each of our sales guys. This is part one of a two part blog.
Eric Bisaillon – 514.234.5554 – [email protected]
Eric is from St-Jean-sur-Richelieu, has been a part of Shouldice Designer Stone for eleven and a half years and works in the Quebec marketplace. He has great respect for the people at head office, the quality product he represents and the company processes that make his job a pleasure.
When asked what his favourite Shouldice product is Eric replied, “Architectural and Fusion Stone products.” His favourite job that he has sold is a project at Saint-Bruno-on-the-Lake.
When on the road Eric listens to rock and pop and makes pit stops at Subway or Tim Hortons.
Eric enjoys life while on vacation at ocean destinations enjoying himself with good people.
Will Marlatt – 647.237.4841– [email protected]
Will is a relative new comer to Shouldice, having been with the firm for about a year and a half but he came with tons of amazing professional experience. Will is responsible for the GTA.
Will has sold many Shouldice jobs but his favourite is the Minto Ivey Ridge housing project in Whitby. When he met with the site super and took pictures, as some units were completed, Shouldice products were all utilized including Pier Caps, Sills, and Coping with Estate Stone. The results were incredible. It really highlighted Shouldice quality and design.
Everyone has a favourite thing about their job. Will’s is the opportunity to work with some great people in the construction and masonry industry; whether it is the architect designing a project or the mason installing Shouldice masonry products. With the support of the great Shouldice team, you can follow from the origins of the project to product selection, logistics and the completed project. He finds that very exciting and rewarding.
Will doesn’t have a single favourite Shouldice product but is particularly partial to all Estate Stone, Urban Smooth, Fusion Stone Great Lakes Carbon, and the new 336 sills. There’s nothing like a sales rep who believes in a quality product.
Sales people will often make the claim that there is no typical day. Will is no different. He says that his day really begins the day before when he reviews plans for the next several days. He confirms times and locations and makes sure he has the necessary samples. Early morning is time to check emails and other details. Then it’s time to hit the road. Follow up phone calls and cold calls are done between scheduled activities when stopped to grab a coffee or in transit.
On a person level, Will is happy to switch between Starbucks and Tim’s with occasional stops at Wendy’s. While in transit he listens to AM640, 97.3 Boom or Q107. For vacation time Will has eclectic tastes and is happy to travel south, to Europe, the mountains or beaches.
Jeff Farmer – 613.770.3173 – [email protected]
Jeff, representing Shouldice in eastern and northern Ontario, is the new kid on the block at Shouldice. He started in October 2019. A great vacation for Jeff is somewhere cold on a Ski-Doo.
In his brief time with Shouldice Jeff has quickly made the determination that his favourite thing about the company is its versatility to create something unique for each customer. It’s great to see Shouldice as a key part of someone’s most cherished possession – their home. In fact, his favourite project sold is for a family friend that put Smith Stone Polar on their forever home. Smith Stone Polar is also Jeff’s favourite Shouldice product. He loves the linear lines and subtle colour.
Jeff’s most valuable lesson thus far is that no project is too big. Part of what sets Shouldice apart is its focus on helping customers “create”! There is a great, experienced team on the road and in the office that help make that possible every day.
While on the road Jeff listens to Spittin’ Chiclets podcasts and has made Casero Mexican restaurant in Owen Sound his favourite.
Although not a record, Andrew’s extensive career, representing Shouldice in southern Ontario, began 23 years ago on February 3, 1997. Andrew currently resides in Oakville, Ontario, but was born in Midland, just 45 minutes north of Barrie.
Andrew’s favourite thing about working for Shouldice follows a theme that is very consistent with many other Shouldice employees – it is that “the people make Shouldice feel like a family and NOT a job.”
With a more than 23-year history with Shouldice you can imagine it is difficult to identify a single favourite job that Andrew has sold. He says, “If I had to choose one, I would say a large waterfront infill project done many years ago built by FRAM. The job converted an old rundown cornstarch factory in Port Credit into a 110-unit townhome project broken into 15 blocks. He lived nearby this location for 5 years prior, and almost 6 after it was completed. “Our product still, to this day, looks amazing and it changed the vibe for the village of Port Credit completely.”
Andrew’s immediate response when asked about his favourite Shouldice product is Estate Stone. However, a product he always enjoys seeing is 12″x24″ Chamois Rock Stone or Tapestry with return corners.
When on the road Andrew listens to AM680 for news and weather but also loads up a USB stick and listens to commercial free music. His on the road food stop is Chuck’s Roadhouse. Wednesday is rib day and that means a full rack for $12.99. He can entertain two clients like kings for under $50.
Not surprisingly there really is no typical day in Andrew’s work life. It usually starts with a call or text from a dealer, builder or mason. There are job site meetings with dealers or architects and meeting sales reps for product knowledge sessions. There is also, of course, answering calls from dealers, masons, architects, builders and homeowners to make their lives easier.
When it is vacation time, Andrew loves the Caribbean because of the people and the laid-back culture.
