At Shouldice Stone, we take immense pride in being part of the communities we serve. Our involvement in the rebuilding of the Hepworth-Shallow Lake Legion exemplifies our commitment to supporting meaningful projects that foster unity and growth. Located less than a five-minute drive from our manufacturing facility, the Legion is deeply connected to our community and our values. The devastating fire that destroyed the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 586 in January 2022 was a significant loss for the Hepworth community. However, the resilience and determination of the community turned this tragedy into a story of hope, collaboration, and renewal.
When the opportunity arose to contribute to the new legion building, Shouldice Stone was honoured to step in and provide all masonry materials in the design free of charge. Our contribution was the natural colour of Polar in our traditional profile Q-Stone. By working closely with the legion, we created a result that not only met the aesthetic and functional needs of the project but also symbolized the strength and unity of the Hepworth community.
A Solution for a Meaningful Rebuild
The new Hepworth-Shallow Lake Legion building, unveiled at a grand opening on November 2, 2024, is a modern, functional facility designed with both the present and future in mind. At approximately 7,000 square feet, the building includes a spacious hall, a commercial kitchen, an outdoor patio, and revenue-generating storage units. Notably, Shouldice Stone also donated the block used to build the storage facility, further showcasing our dedication to the project and the community it serves.
As a company dedicated to solution-based masonry, Shouldice Stone worked closely with the legion to create a product that aligned with their vision. The Polar colour of our Q-Stone profile was specially developed to complement the new building’s design, offering a look that resonates with the spirit of renewal. The result is a beautiful, durable exterior that stands as a testament to what’s possible when communities and businesses come together.
A Celebration of Community Spirit
The grand opening ceremony was a great event that brought together legion members, local government officials, and contributors from across Ontario. Attendees witnessed the official flag-raising and ribbon-cutting ceremony, followed by speeches and a light lunch. Shouldice Stone was honoured to be recognised during the event, with gratitude expressed for our donation and long-standing support.
Our Director of Manufacturing, who attended the ceremony, shared her reflections on the event, noting the sense of camaraderie and gratitude that filled the room. She highlighted the efforts of many key contributors, including local contractors and architects, who played vital roles in bringing this project to life. The speeches underscored the collective effort that went into rebuilding the legion, a true reflection of the community’s resilience and generosity.
Supporting Communities Through Masonry Excellence
At Shouldice Stone, we believe our role extends beyond providing exceptional masonry products. It’s about building relationships and being a partner in projects that matter. The Hepworth-Shallow Lake Legion rebuild is a shining example of how we collaborate with our customers to deliver tailored solutions that meet their unique needs.
We are proud that our product not only enhances the building’s exterior but also serves as a lasting symbol of community strength and togetherness. As the legion continues to serve as a gathering place for veterans and community members, we are reminded of the importance of spaces that bring people together.
To the Hepworth community and the members of the Hepworth-Shallow Lake Legion, we extend our heartfelt congratulations on this new beginning. We are grateful for the opportunity to have been part of your journey and look forward to seeing the positive impact this new building will have for years to come.
