Locally Sourced Materials
Sustainability begins close to home. Over 90% of our raw materials are sourced within a 25-kilometre radius of our Shallow Lake, Ontario facility. This not only reduces transportation emissions but also supports the local economy and ensures a more sustainable supply chain.
Transitioning to Electric Equipment
Reducing emissions is a priority at Shouldice Stone. We’ve transitioned much of our material-handling fleet to electric forklifts, which eliminate fossil fuel emissions and significantly lower our carbon footprint. This shift reflects our commitment to adopting greener, more sustainable technologies.
Reusing Wooden Skids
Shipping often generates unnecessary waste, but we’re making a difference by reusing wooden skids. Customers are encouraged to return used skids for repair and reuse, with each one being repurposed up to three times. This initiative reduces landfill waste and conserves valuable resources, proving that even small changes can have a significant impact.
Water Recycling
Water conservation is integral to our operations. Our advanced water treatment facility recycles 100% of the water used in our stone-cutting processes, amounting to over 60 million litres annually. This reduces our dependence on fresh water sources, reflecting our dedication to protecting this vital resource.

We’re proud to contribute to sustainable building practices through products that align with LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification requirements.
